In order to earn money online, people need to know about your business. Okay, I am stating the obvious, and I know that. However, this is one of the most critical tasks for any business, yet it is one of the most difficult.

If you have a metered advertising budget, you need to utilize proven, highly effective, free methods of advertising. One such method is writing company newsletters.

Company newsletters can be a highly successful marketing strategy. Whether you plan to up sell, cross sell, brand your company, or simply reach a wider market, a newsletter can help you to accomplish your goals.

So what exactly is an email newsletter? Well just think of it as an abbreviated newspaper. However, instead of the newspaper representing a city or a state, it represents your business. Your company newsletter can discuss new products or services, success stories, case studies, articles, sales, promotions, company events, and so on.

While newsletters are great, they need to be correctly written in order to bring optimum success to your business. Below we will highlight ten steps to having success with e-mail newsletters.

1. Stay up to date and informative. Readers have no interest in reading old news. Make sure that you tell them something new.

2. Get Personal. Make sure that you use your reader's name in your newsletter. There are commands if e-mail programs which populate the recipient's name automatically, so do not think you have to do this manually.

3. Get to know your audience. Figure out what you readers' interests are. Do your homework, and invite suggestions.

4. Do not hide who you are. Let your personality shine though, and allow the reader to get to know you. Readers are more likely to trust you and give you their loyalty if they feel that they know you. Always put yourself into your newsletter. It can be your humor, personal details, or personal views on matters of interest to your readers.

5. A compelling subject line. Just think of the subject line as the headline of a newspaper. You need to immediately grab the reader's attention, while making the subject line relevant. Furthermore, your reader should be able to read the entire line before opening their e-mail, so keep it twenty-five characters or less.

6. Use a title bar. Establish brand awareness and aesthetic appear by using a title bar.

7. Make it easy to read. Most people do not like to read words on a computer monitor, therefore they scan. Make sure that you use easy to read bullet points and sub-headings. Keep your reader's attention, and be concise.

8. Along the same lines as making your newsletter easy to read, you should use proper spacing. If your newsletter appears too busy, your reader will give up on reading it. Give your readers the chance to take in valuable information by dedicating about one third of your screen estate to white space.

9.  Make is easy to unsubscribe. Readers are far more likely to subscribe to your newsletter if they know that they will not need to go on an expedition just to unsubscribe. Furthermore, many people see the ease of unsubscribing as an indicator of your company's integrity.

10. Share This, E-mail, Print. Include links on your newsletter which gives your readers the ability to do all of these things, and watch your subscribers multiply.

With that being said, newsletters are a great way to boost traffic and earn money online.
